Web Clips
on Thursday, December 8th, 2005 at 8:35 pmSo this is interesting. Google has added this feature called Web Clips. It’s a little bar above your frame, that feeds you little RSS & ATOM feeds.
Usual google style, it’s easy, intuitive, and relatively unobtrusive.
Instinctively I went to disable it thinking it was just ad. But upon hitting customize, I saw I could disable it outright immediately. So I gave them a point for that. Then I realized I could also choose feeds.
As well as add my own.
And it’s random.
So google has brought RSS & ATOM into gmail, and it’s just become that much better.
What’s also interesting is it brings back for me a newspaper mode of story discovery. I’ll just subscribe to everything, and let random do the rest.
I look forward to the day when Google sells an e-mail appliance like they do a search one.
Sure, there are sponsored links but so what? I fast-forward on the VCR, (well, when I used to actually USE a VCR - I have a Neuros on the way, but that’s another story) so I can skip through the feed here.

[…] Thanks to Flyingroc for introducing me to Pandora - the music genome program. At it’s core it let’s you build stream based on preference, and throws some stuff it thinks you will like into the mix. It’s actually going to be great for the office. Like Web Clips which I mentioned ealier, you can just load up one stream will all yout favorite bands and music, and skip anything foreign, till eventually it only plays your music. […]
