Not Ok, Cupid
on Wednesday, July 12th, 2006 at 8:16 pmOK Cupid == lame suckage. I have had a profile for myself as Max Case on Ok-Cupid for a while. I used it as a social networking site, did the tests, met a few people etc. The main motivation at the time was, I thought it would be cool, and to be honest, a bit ahead of the curve to have a profile for my avatar [something we will be seeing more of in the future].
But it was all me, my personality, etc. I was a member in good standing, for over the last year (or so I thought).
So, surprise on me to learn my account has been deleted without warning, or any message.
Not the end of the world, just evidence of ok-cupids lameness. In all fairness, I will say, I was liking their new look - they gave the site a much needed overhaul.
Personally, I suspect they are just waiting for a buy out a-la myspace to cash their chips.
Of course, this brings up issues of avatars and identity and can your avatar be considered you?
A similar issue popped up on flickr recently, with non-photographic photos being demoted to some degree. So, OK Cupid - Not so geek friendly. Or just not avatar friendly. Maybe time to move onto plentyoffish.com, who can hopefully start copying some of OK Cupid’s better features.
I could go on, but I’d rather be working on neighbours, which is what i’m off to do.

You are so right. Thanks. Time to spring clean the whole site a bit.
