Final babbler update for tonight:
I am leaving babbler off tonight. It works for a while, then when load picks up, it stops working, and I get flagged as spammer/virus. I will look into how to get whitelisted. Naturally, I would be more than happy to slap a company’s logo onto the babbler if they would like to officially sponsor it or whatnot. Only deal is, it has to be given away :)

[update: back down again. they basically flag me since the volume is too high it seems, and unfortunately, i can’t find a direct link to email about this :/ oh well. was fun while it lasted. Ok, babbler is now using babblefish from altavista. We’ll see how long this holds up. They seem to offer a translate through your site service, which I am doing. I will have to add their logo to the babbler though. Good news is, it means I will be adding dutch :)
If anyone knows of a good public api for translations, please, share. They best i’ve found has been the pirate translator, which gives nice clean xml.

The Letter
And here’s the letter I am sending to google:
Dear Google,
I’m hoping you can help me with something.
My name is Max Case, a resident of second life (http://secondlife.com). It’s basically a large virtual space.
Anyhow, I made something to bridge this space with google translations (a mashup basically). This allows people from all over the world to talk to one another in this space.
Because I have to use screen scraping, I have to route it all through my site (transparent to the end user).
However, I point out all translations are by google, and I don’t charge any money for the product.
However, it seems you system has flagged me erroneously as potential spammer or virus :)

[update - looks like yahoo! is a bit more on the ball. It started rejecting my requests after like 1 minute :/ I suppose this is what being a victim of your success is like. ]
Of course, my own feelings are this functionality should be rolled into the client, and the LL has the pull that they could make an official deal with someone to pipe the translations through. As oppossed to me, sending my little email into the google or yahoo void :(

In the meantime, I will see what I can do, (and I’ll write to google, but that will probably fall into the same event horizon as LL’s support/abuse team.

sxsw
Looks like I'll be attending sxsw this year, thanks to work. Just thought others from SL might be heading out, and I got to thinking it could be fun to meet each other a bit before hand grid-side, so I started a group in SL: sxsw'ers. Open enrollement, so feel free to join up if your heading out there for 2007.

SL Client mod
This is a clever little client mod for SL. used for making surveys.
I imagine something similar for language translation, which will obsolete my babblers/de-babblers. I would add it to the client, but I know no C :(
Delivery Un-Woed
Ok, new delivery system is in place. Please let me know if you have any problems receiving babbler or de-babbler. System is now much easier to scale up - just drop a new node in. The whole network is dumber, which is a good thing. Decided to stop immmediate duplicate deliveries while I was at it, but this may cause problems for people receiving it while in busy mode, so that list will be regularly purged. I still have to decide best way to deal with this case. Too tired to think it through now. I’m open to suggestions.
The whole exprience has got me thinking about a general SL comm-funcs-weather page. Anyone know if a public one exists? Do you have your own private one?
