Babbler info update
on Saturday, February 3rd, 2007 at 3:50 pmJust to keep people in the loop - no word yet from any of the big boys. Still working on other possible solutions. In the mean time, it's on, but when traffic gets too high, google throws me an error, and you'll get the error message. I tried rigging up through proxies, but thats got limited success, since the proxies can be unreliable at times.

Is it possible to pay for an account with Google that won’t get shut off? How much would the average traffic cost? I’m just trying to understand the scope of the problem.

Nah, I can’t get any attention yet. Scope is just traffic through my server picks up, so many requests hit google through one chokepoint. I would funnel directly into sl, but the page google returns is too big. If I could pay, i would look into it as an option. What seems to be happening now is demand dies down cuz people think its broken, so it works. then demand picks up, so it breaks again.
Whats interesting is, those areas are seem underdeveloped by the big players, which i find weird. No api or anything. Competitively, i find yahoo-fish better than googles.

So even if you were to find a sponsor with some dollars you haven’t been able to contact the right people to fix the problem?

ideally, sponsorship would take the form of using their translator api, or making one that sl could hook into directly.Basically, a web page without all the style info, etc…

When was the last time you read http://nwn.blogs.com/ which has BijoRewind 2 featured in an entry named “HUD Loving”? Maybe some additional publicity would help the cause.

I suggest Working Assets as the Corporate Sponsor since they deal in Telecommunications and support lots of progressives causes.
