tip: sound loop on/off

This one via Adenoraque Qin. Say you have a 15 second sound loop, and you want the user to be able to toggle sound on and off. If you just use llStopSound(), the loop will keep playing, till it finishes.
Example: Clip is 5 seconds in when user pushes stop button - sound will still play the full 15 second clip. Instead, when the user hits the stop button, call the same sound with volume of 0: llPlaySound(”foo”, 0); then llStopSound();

tip: resizing

This comes via Gigs from the #secondlife irc channel
Gigs:oh man I just thought of a sweet way to scale an object down by a certain percentage
Gigs:link in a prim that’s almost minimum size on a dimension
Gigs:so like link in a 0.020 prim then scale it all the way down to scale it down exactly 50%

adding lsl (and other languages) syntax highlighting to your wordpress

Get the synthihol plug-in. It comes with GeSHi, though you’ll probably want to get the latest version.
Follow the readme for the plug-in, and go grab my geshi language file for lsl. It’s a first version, but I think I covered everything. The colours are easy enough to change.

Using Linden Script Language (LSL )

Using Linden Script Language (LSL ) is a pretty decent tutorial which introduces a lot of scripting concepts, mixedwith script examples.

QuickNote

QuickNote
Just wanted to mention this very useful extension if you use firefox and are someone who browses and takes notes at the same time.

Search Plug-in for SL WIKI

This may be of some use to people, so I am throwing a link to it up here.

I tweaked one of the site search plugins for Firefox’s search field to search the Wiki.

This fills a need (at least for me) since I don’t remember all of LSL in my head, and find the Wiki’s built in search too narrow.

Remember, this only works for users of Firefox.

[ With apologies to Catherine Omega, who apparently made one a while ago. ]

ARGH!!! No so good

So, it turns out if you log out while wearing an attachment you have been working on, you will lose any changes if you don’t detach said attachment from your AV to save it. So, all my stupid work last night to make the little sticky note mailer is gone.

Either that or its some bug related to the upgrade. I suppose I’ll have to post in the forums.

grrr…

ui tip - texture interface

Maybe this is old, but I stumbled on it today

Use Slect Texture. You will notice a cross hair on the face you have selected. If you then use the repeats per face/offset/rotate interface you will see a ‘preview’ of what will happen with any textures you apply.
